Schill was founded in 1986 by Bengt Schill. Traditionally, alignment was performed while ships were “high and dry” in a dry dock. This methodology was not particularly accurate due to significant structural changes in the ship between being dry and afloat. Additionally, this process was costly and complex, leading to infrequent alignment procedures.
The Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) noted these issues and sought to investigate whether alignment could be performed more accurately and efficiently. They identified substantial discrepancies and errors arising from the methods used at the time.
Bengt, who was working at Saab as a leading developer in fire control and sighting systems, took on this challenge. With a degree in engineering physics, he single-handedly developed a system to measure angles on a floating ship, leading to the invention of the Schill system.
Today, Schill boasts over 35 years of experience in the industry, with extensive expertise in various weapon and sighting systems. Schill serves customers in more than 30 countries and is a world leader in the alignment of ship systems.
